KOLKATA, 27 JUNE: Police have rescued a pregnant woman last night who was bleeding profusely on Basanti Highway after being beaten up by her in-laws and kicked out of a moving car last evening.
At around 10:30 p.m. a police team, patrolling the Basanti Highway, first spotted the victim lying in a pool of blood in an unconscious state. They suspect that the victim had been raped and immediately informed the matter to Pragati Maidan police station. Police rescued her and admitted her at a city hospital.
Later, when the victim gained consciousness she told police that she worked as an ayah in the Karaya area and was married to Sanjay Maity of Gosaba six months ago without his family’s consent and they were living separately. Yesterday, her in-laws called the couple up near Science City off EM Bypass to reconcile the matter. But when she met them, they dragged her inside a Tata Sumo and beat her up before kicking her in the belly, being fully aware of her pregnancy. After she became unconscious, they kicked her out of the vehicle and fled. Today the victim’s brother lodged a complaint against her in-laws and alleged they had probably killed Sanjay, who was missing for the past few days, and then attempted to kill his sister. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and abduction against the victim’s in-laws.
The accused are absconding and police have started a search to nab them.
