Rabiul Alam Chowdhury, the Congress MLA from Rejinagar constituency in Murshidabad district, on Thursday joined the Trinamool Congress in presence of Trinamool&’s national Youth Congress president and MP Abhishek Banerjee.
Banerjee later told the reporters, “Those who spearheaded the alliance before the Assembly polls, has become unnerved at the steady erosion of their support base and so they are spreading violence at Domkol.”
Banerjee condemned such violence and ‘mindless killing’ of the Trinamool supporters. Chowdhury became the second Congress MLA from Rejinagar to join the ruling TMC.
Earlier, Humayun Kabir, who was the Congress legislator from the same seat, had resigned as MLA and joined the TMC. That time he was made a minister of TMC-led state government.
His resignation as MLA caused by-election in which he was defeated by Rabiul Alam Chowdhury. The Pradesh Congress president, Adhir Chowdhury, who was then the minister of state for railways, was instrumental in the victory of Alam Chowdhury.
The defecting Congress MLA said that he joined the ruling TMC for the sake of development. The chief minister has actually flooded the state with development works, he said to justify his joining the TMC party
