A ward office of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation was opened after weeks as officials discovered contraceptives, a bed and dressing table inside it.

The ward office, which used to be run by Trinamool Congress, reported remained locked since the results for the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal were announced on May 4.

After it was opened on Friday night, it turned out to be a luxurious place featuring multiple air conditioners and sofas in several rooms.

West Bengal Health Minister Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee, who is also the MLA of the area, said he was shocked to see that the ward office remained locked for a long time.

“At first, I did not understand why there was a bedroom. Later, I understood. It is a sin to see such things in a ward office,” IANS quoted Dr Mukherjee as saying.

Notably, former TMC ward councillor no. 35 Jaydev Naskar in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area remains missing since the results of the Assembly elections were announced.

Earlier, several residents complained that the ward office was not working properly.

After getting multiple complaints, the state Health Minister inspected the situation of the ward office. As soon as he entered, multiple expensive sofas were found. Also, there were more than five AC units in the entire office.

After entering the councillor’s room, authorities saw a bed inside. Shockingly, there were no files in the cupboard, but several winter blankets, soft pillows and sheets.

A packet of condoms was recovered from the dressing table in the room, IANS reported.

“Bedrooms, multiple rooms, big and small are found. Dressing tables are there as well. A proper investigation is needed in the matter. Those who have looted people’s money must be brought to book,” the state minister said.
