Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today advocated use of “electric ovens” as part of an effort to curb ever-increasing pollution and stressed on the necessity of planting saplings to keep the environment free of toxic fumes. In this regard she also sought cooperation from the hawkers.

“The way the pollution is taking a toll on the human lives the time has come to put in place a deterrence to get rid of pollution. Electric oven which will reduce emission of toxic fumes to a great extent is one such gadget that can become an effective tool to guard against pollution,” Miss Banerjee suggested.

Addressing a gathering at Nazrul Mancha as part of the “Save green, Save environment” campaign, for which the CM led a 6-km march from Birla Planetarium to Nazrul Manch in South Kolkata to raise awareness about environment among the masses in the wake of mushrooming growth of concretisation and growing trends of deforestation, the chief minister sought action to curb the menace.

“The way environment is being harmed by toxic fumes emitted by vehicles and the growing trend of felling of trees, we are only exposing ourselves to health hazards. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect the environment so that lives can be at peace and we can all live healthily,” Miss Banerjee said.
