Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on his way to Mejia in Bankura yesterday had met with the local MLAs of West Burdwan district at Andal and called all the nine legislatures to Kolkata on 22 July for an urgent meeting.
Two of the nine MLAs, Agnimitra Paul of Asansol South is state UDMA minister and Kulti MLA Dr Ajay Poddar is the PWD and PHE minister.
About 20 new investment proposals, worth Rs 1,000 crore, are lying with Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Nabanna and presently and all of them are under scrutiny. Once these proposed investment projects are cleared, lands will be shown to the investors, but there will not be any issue with procuring land for the purpose in West Burdwan district, sources said.
MLAs Chandrasekhar Banerjee and Lakhsman Ghorui have urged the chief Minister to look into the issue of holding the civic elections of Durgapur Municipal Corporation, which is pending since a long time.
“CM Suvendu Adhikary had informed us after the Durga Puja the DMC elections will be held between November and December. He has called all the nine MLAs of the West Burdwan administrative district on 22 July in Kolkata for important updates and actions. The CM has also assured us that he himself will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate all the upcoming investment projects in West Burdwan. Besides the CM has advised us to discuss the other issues in the ADDA board meeting,” added Chandrasekhar Banerjee.
Kolkata-based Berger Paints had already announced an investment proposal of Rs 600 crore in its plant in Panagarh Industrial Park of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC), besides the NH-19 in West Burdwan district. A private steel producer has also lined up a separate Rs 4,000-crore expansion project in Durgapur, for which the CM will lay the foundation stone in first week of August. The company already has possession of the land for the project.
Meanwhile officials of Mitsubishi are expected to visit in the last week of July for its proposed semiconductor plant, the policy of which has already been cleared by Centre and they required limited land and will be shown plots in either Panagarh or Durgapur, said Tapas Roy, commerce and industry minister in Durgapur yesterday.
