A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday afternoon as part of its ongoing probe into the alleged signature forgery case.

The investigating officers arrived at the assembly premises on Monday and following protocol, entered their details in the designated visitors’ register.

Sources said the CID team is likely to hold discussions with the Secretary of the West Bengal Assembly regarding matters related to the investigation.

The visit assumes significance amid the agency’s continuing inquiry into the case which is related to the signatures of some TMC MLAs on a resolution about the appointment for some slots in the West Bengal Assembly that remain reserved for the Opposition bench in the House.

Abhishek questioned for 14 hours

Meanwhile, the CID is considering summoning Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for a third round of questioning in connection with the case. Abhishek has already been interrogated for more than 14 hours in two rounds, first for around six hours on June 11 (Thursday) and later for eight and a half hours on June 14 (Sunday).

Kunal Ghosh grilled

The state probe agaency had also interrogated TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh on Sunday in the same matter. Reports indicate that during their marathon questioning, CID officials highlighted some inconsistencies in the statements given by Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh.

Hence the CID has reportedly decided to summon the Diamond Harbour MP again to get further clarification on such inconsistencies.

Earlier, it was reported that Abhishek and Ghosh were questioned separately by the CID’s investigating official on Sunday and later made to sit sit face-to-face and questioned together.
