Trinamool Congress (TMC) treasurer and former MP Subhasish Chakraborty engaged in a heated exchange with Crime Investigation Department (CID) officers as he initially denied them entry into the party office in Kalighat.

Chakraborty argued that since both TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew and party National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee were in Delhi, he has been given charge of the pary office in their absence and could not allow them to enter the premises without their authorisation.

Chakraborty told The Statesman, “How can I allow them to enter my office without the authorisation of those who are not there?”

The CID reached TMCs’ Kalighat office as well as the residence of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at 30B Harish Chatterjee Street on Tuesday afternoon, along with central forces.

The probe agency also visited Abhishek Banerjee’s party office at Kolkata’s Camac Street on the same day.

It has been learnt that the investigators also served a notice directed at Abhishek Banerjee to Chakraborty.

The Diamond Harbour MP had already skipped CID’s summons thrice, which prompted the probe officials to use force.

Abhishek Banerjee was expected to apepar before the CID at Bhabani Bhavan in South Kolkata on Tuesday to face interrogation in the signature mismatch case.
