A threatening email was received this morning by the Hooghly district judge, claiming that a bomb had been planted in the Chinsurah court premises. Panic spread quickly, and routine court proceedings came to an abrupt halt.
On receiving the information, officers from the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate rushed to the court. The building was evacuated, and the crowd was moved to a safe distance. The premises were cordoned off as the bomb squad and dog squad carried out an intensive search operation at multiple locations. Police declined to comment, citing security concerns.
Justice seekers expressed anger, blaming the state government for the deteriorating law and order situation. Senior BJP leader Suresh Shaw alleged that West Bengal had become a “safe zone for terrorists” and that ordinary citizens were no longer secure.
Chinsurah MLA Ashit Mazumdar, however, described the incident as a “dirty conspiracy” against the state government and the Bengali population. He urged the cybercrime department to swiftly trace the source of such threatening emails.
