PURULIA, 1 JUNE: A bomb blast was reported last night near district Trinamul Congress Secretary Aditya Singh Malla&’s residence in Barabazar. No one has been injured though a section of the boundary wall, including the main gate to his house, was damaged in this blast. Police have started investigating into the matter. None has been arrested yet. Police said a blast was heard in the dead of night from Mr Malla’s Rajapara residence. Superintendent of Police C Sudhakar said it was a crude bomb. According to police, Mr Malla, an influential TMC leader and his wife Mrs Suneeta Singh Malla, who is also a secretary of the District Mahila (Women) Trinamul Congress Committee and a nominee for the Zilla Parishad contest in the upcoming panchayat elections, have accused the CPI-M-sponsored Maoists for the violence.
It has been alleged that on 7 May, a letter, written on the People&’s Liberation Army (PLA)’s writing pad, reached Mr Malla reportedly instructing him to end his relationship with the TMC and staying away from police. Surprisingly, Mr. Malla&’s allegation was not at all supported by President of the District Trinamul Youth Congress Goutam Roy, who blatantly charged the CPI-M-sponsored hooligans for this incident. Rubbishing the connection of Maoists in this concern, he told The Statesman: “They are scared of the growing popularity of the TMC in the area under the firm leadership of Mr Malla.” sns
