The son-in-law of Sampa Chakraborty, whose body was found at roadside near her residence at Basudevpur Road in Parnasree on Sunday morning, has confessed of killing her by slitting her throat with a sharp razor knife as she had fiercely opposed his marriage of her daughter Ria with him and his lifestyle.
The accused Raju Samui has also revealed during interrogation that he had earlier plotted to kill her twice but could not proceed further with his plan owing to fear. He told the police, that he had purchased four sedative pills on 14 August to mix those in the food of both Sampa Chakraborty and her husband Bhupal Chakraborty but could not muster courage to follow his plan.
His wife Ria was initially stubborn during interrogation but later broke down after repeated grilling and confessed that she had wiped the blood off the floor after her husband murdered her mother.
After the killing, they put the dead body into a large box as Raju had planned to dispose of the body at an isolated spot by carrying it in his cycle. He even managed to get a bicycle for this act.
However, Ria failed to place the box in the carrier of the cycle, Raju joined hands but he dropped the box after a short distance.
Thereafter Raju fled the spot in panic while Ria opened the box and left the dead body on roadside,” said an investigating officer. The husband of the victim was out of his house at the time of murder as he is employed as a security guard in night shift. Although Ria had been accused of theft earlier by their neighbours, there is no past criminal record of Raju who worked as a labourer.
