The body of an unidentified man was recovered from a canal in front of a high-end residential complex in Kolkata’s Anandapur area on Tuesday morning, prompting a police investigation into a possible case of murder.

Local residents spotted the body floating in the canal adjacent to the upscale housing society and alerted authorities. A team from Anandapur police station reached the spot and retrieved the body, which showed no immediate signs of identification. Police sources said they are trying to ascertain the man’s identity and the cause of death. Preliminary investigations suggest that the man may have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the canal to mislead investigators.

However, no conclusive evidence has been found yet. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being reviewed. A case of unnatural death has been registered for now, but police have not ruled out the possibility of homicide. Further investigation is underway.
