Bodies of a mother and her daughter were recovered from a pond in Dubrajpur on Christmas morning, triggering tension in the area. The deceased had reportedly been missing for the past two days.

Around 7 a.m, local fishermen spotted the body of the woman floating in the Morol pond, located at Kalupara under Ward No. 6 of Dubrajpur Municipality. She was later identified as Mala Hazra. As news spread, a large crowd gathered at the spot.

When the girl was not immediately found, residents began searching the pond using fishing nets. After an extensive search, the body of Mala Hazra’s daughter, Brishti Hazra, was also recovered from the same pond.

According to local sources, the mother and daughter had been untraceable for the past two days. Family members had searched extensively in the surrounding areas but failed to locate them, causing growing concern among both relatives and local residents.

Upon receiving information, a large contingent from Dubrajpur police station rushed to the spot. The entire area was cordoned off, and an investigation was launched.

Bhaskar Ghosh, councillor of Ward No. 6, said: “They had been missing for two days, and a missing person’s diary was lodged at the police station. This morning, Mala Hazra’s body was seen floating in the pond. The child’s body was recovered about an hour and a half later. Post-mortem examinations are being conducted, and the exact cause of death will be known once the reports are received.”
