In a significant revelation, a large stock of relief materials were recovered from Sreebhumi Sporting Club in Kolkata on Friday.

The recovery included a large number of blankets, saris, tarpaulin and plastic buckets. The materials were allegedly meant for distribution among Gangasagar pilgrims.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed that instead of distributing relief material to the distressed, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has hoarded them inside a room of a sporting field seized from the club linked to former Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose.

Bose was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) earler in May in connection with the alleged municipal recruitment scam in West Bengal.

Bose, who contested the Bidhannagar Assembly seat as a TMC candidate and lost, had approached the Calcutta High Court seeking relief, citing his involvement in election campaigning.

TMC sources maintained that Bose avoided appearing before the ED during the election period in compliance with court directions.

After the elections concluded, Bose appeared before ED officials at the CGO (Central Government Offices) Complex in Kolkata’s Salt Lake City in response to a summons issued in connection with the ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in recruitment in several municipalities.

According to ED sources, the former minister was taken into custody after investigators allegedly found inconsistencies in his statements during the marathon interrogation.
