The district BJP as a mark of protest against the attack on Mr Dilip Ghosh, BJP state president and district BJP party workers by ruling partybacked goons, put up road blocks at Serampore, Dankuni and others places in the district. At Serampore the police arrested the BJP activists to lift the road block.

The district BJP leadership condemned alleged police excesses on BJP activists at Serampore. Workers of the district BJP, in protest against the attack on Mr Dilip Ghosh, the party’s state president today blocked the Durgapur Expressway at Dankuni and Serampore Battala road Junction. Senior BJP leaders Mr Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Mr Shyamal Bose, who also took part in the road block condemned the police excesses against them. Both the senior leaders said that every Opposition political party has a democratic right to protest against the wrongdoing by the government.

“As a mark of protest against the repeated attack on our party president MrVV Dilip Ghosh and district party workers by the ruling party backed goons, today we went ahead to block the GT road Junction at Serampore, but the police officers on the spot obstructed us from putting up a road block for just a few minutes. They even pushed and dragged our BJP female party workers who had sat down on the road. Later they arrested Mr Shyamal Bose, the BJP Serampore zone district president and pushed and carried others into the police van,” said Mr Bhattacharya.

The ruling party is misusing the police administration for its own political benefits. The police administration has practically lost its separate identity as a law protector in the state, but such undemocratic attitude of the ruling party and the police administration will not last for long, said the senior BJP leaders.
