The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, who have been let loose by the party leaders, are trying to spoil Trinamul Congress’ Didir Suraksha Kawach, alleged party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Mr Banerjee held a review meeting this afternoon to get up to date information about the ongoing projects in Diamond Harbour constituency.

Senior state government officials associated with the projects attended the meeting along with Trinamul functionaries. After holding the meeting, he visited the Falta-Mathurapur water treatment plant. Coming down heavily on the saffron party, the national general secretary said people had come to Trinamul leaders to register their grievances as they did not find the people’s representatives of the BJP.

“Their MLAs or the MPs do not visit their areas. They visit those places just before the elections and their sole aim is to spoil the initiatives taken by Trinamul chairperson Mamata Banerjee,” he said. He said Trinamul leaders and workers had visited the people as the party wanted to know whether various schemes taken by the state government had actually reached the beneficiaries. “People are coming to our leaders often with some grievances.

This should be the case as we want to gather information from them. We are not ashamed as the people are our real source of inspiration. For their benefit, various schemes are started and they have every right to know about them,” he maintained. He said the central team that had come to see the awas yojana, left West Bengal without finding any flaw. “Some BJP leaders are shouting everyday because without this their existence would be at stake,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the BJP, Mr Banerjee said the BJP was trying to create an economic blockade by not providing funds meant for the poor but “spending Rs 20,000 crore to create Central Vista and another Rs 8,000cr to buy private aircraft. What more economic debauchery can happen, he asked. On one hand they are depriving people from getting benefits and on the other they are spending crores of rupees for their publicity,” he remarked.

Mr Banerjee reiterated that Trinamul would continue to serve the people. “The party is for the common masses and it is our pledge to ensure that we live happily and peacefully,” he said. He urged the party functionaries and government officers to ensure that the projects were completed on time.
