Salary increment at state health dept

KOLKATA, 1 JUNE: The state health department has increased the salary of homeopathic medical officers, compounders and dressers who work at the dispensaries in the panchayat level. An organisation of homeopathic medical officers and compounders had written to the standing committee on Health and Family Welfare in the Assembly demanding a hike in their salary and also urged the government to appoint full time medical officers at the rural dispensaries.
Their demands also include better infrastructure in the dispensaries. Salaries of part time homeopathic and ayurvedic medical officers were raised from Rs 11,000 to Rs 16,000 per month and from Rs 5,500 to Rs 8,000 for part time compounders and dressers. sns

Fire in city godown, one injured
KOLKATA, 1 JUNE: A fire broke out in a chemical-cum-packaging material godown at 26/2B, Khagen Chatterjee Road in Kashipur around 10.10 p.m. Twelve fire tenders were rushed to the spot and were struggling to contain the flames at the time of going to print. A fireman, Nilkanta Roy, sustained burn injuries on his hands while trying to douse the flames and was admitted to RG Kar Medical Hospital. No other injures were reported. sns
