In a continuation of the recent ‘egg attacks’ against several Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and functionaries, a similar such incident unfolded on Tuesday morning after former TMC MLA Sabyasachi Dutta was arrested from his Rajarhat residence on charges of extortion, corruption and intimidation.
The incident caught on camera showed eggs and tomatoes being hurled at Dutta who had also earlier served as the Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, while he was being escorted by the Bidhannagar Police into a police vehicle. The edibles were being thrown at the direction of the Dutta even when he was seated inside the vehicle. A police personnel’s uniform were seen smeared with raw egg stains after this episode. The camera also captured the portico littered with tomatoes and broken eggs as the police vehicle left the spot.

Who Is Sabyasachi Dutta?
Sabyasachi Dutta represented the Rajarhat-New Town Assembly constituency for two consecutive terms between 2011 and 2021 on TMC ticket. In 2021 he switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested from the Bidhannagar constituency. However, he lost to senior TMC leader Sujit Bose, who was a former state Fire Services Minister.
After a brief stint with the BJP, Dutta returned to TMC fold when the Mamata Banerjee-led party secured a third successive term in power in the state.
Dutta contested from Barasat in the recently held 2026 assembly elections but lost to BJP’s Sankar Chatterjee.
