Union Home Minister Amit Shah today attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government for the massive fire at the Momo factory in the Anandpur warehouse, alleging that the fire was not an accident but a result of the corruption of the state government. He was addressing BJP workers and supporters at Karyakarta Sammelan in Barrackpore, West Bengal.

“The corruption of Mamata Banerjee’s party and government can no longer be hidden. The Anandpur warehouse fire is shouting that Mamata Banerjee’s people are involved… Mamata Banerjee wants to cover it up.” He warned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will selectively put the culprits of this fire behind bars when the BJP government comes to power after April.

During the event in North 24 Parganas, Shah also paid tribute to all the workers who lost their lives in the fire at the Anandpur warehouse. At least 25 people have lost their lives in the mishap, while 27 are missing after the fire incident.

Shah questions Mamata’s reaction on death of Bengalis

Amit Shah questioned the funding of the Momo factory, and the identity of the owners. He said, “Why did this incident happen? Whose money is invested in this Momo factory? Who are the owners of the Momo factory? With whom have the owners of the Momo factory travelled abroad on flights? And why hasn’t the owner of the Momo factory been arrested yet?

The Home Minister also raised questions on the silence of the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the death of Bengali citizens. Targeting the CM over vote-bank politics, Amit Shah said that she should be ashamed for doing vote bank politics in this matter.

“Would Mamata Banerjee’s reaction have been the same if these were infiltrators? Bengali citizens have been killed,” he asked.

Amit Shah demanded that the Bengal CM should conduct an impartial, judicial inquiry into this incident, and that those responsible be put behind bars.

He further stated how the police brutalised BJP workers when they held protest against the government. Also, Suvendu Adhikari and Samik Bhattacharya had gone to meet the families of the victims.
