Amit Shah seeks report on Dhola Hat violence

BJP national president Amit Shah on Monday sought a report from the party&’s state unit on the violence unleashed on the police station at Dhola Hat in South 24-Parganas on Sunday.

He directed senior leaders of the state BJP to prepare a detailed report and send it to him. Two police vehicles had been set on fire and the thana ransacked by a mob following the alleged murder of a cattle trader on 5 September.

The state BJP sent an initial report to Shah. Actress and BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said the state government had intentionally suppressed the incident to appease a group of people.

State BJP expressed concern over the way the state government is “trying to downplay the incident” in the manner they did in case of the Malda Kaliachak incident a few months back when the local police station had been set ablaze and police records were destroyed.

“The Dhola Hat incident also is an act of subversive network, but the state government is making light of the incident,” she said. A BJP fact finding committee will again visit Dholahat on 14 September.

Earlier, senior BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh had alleged the purpose behind setting fire to Kaliachak police station was to destroy records of a fake currency racket kept in the police station.

Singh also complained Malda had become a major hub of the fake currency racket and opium smuggling, but the Trinamul government was not taking any action due to its vote bank politics.

“The state BJP will launch a bigger movement if the situation at Dhola Hat is not handled with the seriousness it deserves,” said a senior BJP leader.
