Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned by the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on June 14 (Sunday), even after he was questioned by the state investigating body for five and a half hours on Thursday evening at the agency’s headquarters at Bhabani Bhawan on the alleged signature forgery case.

Abhishek had arrived at the building around 5:48 PM on Thursday after skipping three summons by the CID, at the direction of the Calcutta High Court which had directed him to cooperate with the investigation. He was questioned in the case involving allegations that the signatures of multiple newly elected TMC MLAs were forged on an official party letter submitted to the Assembly nominating Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of the Opposition.

After leaving from the agency’s office, the Trinamool’s second-in-command headed to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat.

Earlier on Thursday evening, upon returning from Delhi, Abhishek Banerjee first visited his flat on Kalighat Road. He left at around 5:45 PM and reached Bhabani Bhawan at 5:48 PM.

What Happened At CID Office

According to CID sources, Abhishek Banerjee was initially made to wait for some time before investigators began their interrogation. Six CID officials questioned him during the session.

CID sources further indicated that the investigators were not satisfied with the answers given by Abhishek. Hence, the Diamond Harbour MP has been summoned to Bhabani Bhawan on Sunday (June 14), with instructions to appear at its office by noon.
