Abhinav Shaw from West Bengal has scripted history by winning the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2026 in Suhl, Germany, setting a new junior world record in the process.
Following the landmark achievement, West Bengal Sports Minister Indranil Khan has congratulated the Asansol-based shooter for bringing laurels to both the state and the nation.
While speaking to Abhinav over the phone, the minister said, “We are all extremely proud of you. Return home safely, and I look forward to meeting you. You have made both West Bengal and the entire country proud.”
He also wished the young marksman continued success in his future endeavours.
Partnering with Shambhavi Kshirsagar, Abhinav topped the qualification round with a score of 634.6 to secure a place in the final. The Indian pair then produced a brilliant performance in the gold medal match, registering 505.8 points to clinch the title while establishing a new junior world record.
Abhinav’s feat is being celebrated as a proud moment not only for Indian shooting but also for West Bengal’s sporting fraternity. His record-breaking performance on the international stage has further enhanced the state’s reputation in world sport.
