Four BJP workers were arrested for allegedly vandalising the idol of Hanuman in Purulia to create disturbance before Ram Navami.
The arrested youths are Garu Mahato, Avinash Mahato, Kirti Mahato and Kripanath Mahato.
Kirti Azad Trinamul Congress MP in his X handle wrote: “The true face of @ BJP4India. They can go to any extent to try to win an election, even if they have to break the idols of Hindu gods.”
Garu Mahato, a BJP supporter was involved in vandalising the idol. Avinash was the main instigator while Kirti Mahato was BJP’s Shakti Pramukh and Kripanath was former booth president of BJP.
Meanwhile, the state administration has intensified vigil across the state in view of Ram Navami. Mr Ajay Nand, Commissioner of Kolkata Police held meetings with senior officers yesterday to review the arrangements for Ram Navami. Vigil has been intensified in the areas having mixed populations. He urged people not to get swayed by rumours.
Trinamul Congress leaders said the BJP was trying all sorts of nasty tricks to create disturbance before the election.
