Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni was stumped for the first time since 2011. This happened in India’s match against Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on Saturday where the Men in Blue were restricted to a below-par score of 224 for 8 in their stipulated quota of 50 overs.

MS Dhoni played a gritty knock of 28 off 52 balls which was laced with 3 boundaries.

Looking to boost the run rate, Dhoni stepped out to attack Rashid Khan but was completely outplayed by the trajectory. The ball, which was fast outside off, turned sharply away from him, resulting in Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil stumping him out for only the second time in ODIs ever.

India’s 224 is the lowest first innings total batting all 50 overs since 2010. Credit goes to Afghanistan’s tight bowling, especially their spinners. The spin quartet of Rahmat Shah, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi conceded just 119 runs in 34 overs and scalped 5 wickets.

Captain Virat Kohli struck his third consecutive fifty with a classy 67 off 63 balls, highest for the Indian side. Kohli’s innings was laced with five fours while Kedar Jadhav scored 52 off 68 deliveries before being caught out at cover off a Gulbadin Naib delivery.

To the Afghan’s respite, Rashid Khan, who got the infamous tag of conceding most runs in a World Cup match in Afghanistan’s previous tie with England, bounced back strongly with the figures of 1 for 38 in his 10 overs.
