Bangladesh started off cautiously but lost crucial wickets when they needed to accelerate. Despite half-centuries from Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das, Bangladesh fell short by 28 runs against some high-quality Indian bowling.

India beat Bangladesh by 28 runs on Tuesday in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 encounter at Edgbaston Cricket Ground and qualified for the semi-finals with 13 points on the points tally. Having the won the toss and elected to bat first, India had posted a challenging 314/9 in their 50 overs. In response, Bangladesh were bundled out for 286 in 48 overs. Bangladesh were thus knocked out of the World Cup.

Virat Kohli won a crucial toss earlier in the day and Indian openers gave India the best possible start to the team proving the captain’s decision right. Riding on a hundred from Rohit Sharma and a half-century from KL Rahul, coupled with useful contributions from Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni, India propelled themselves to a total that turned out to be a match-winning one eventually.

Mustafizur Rehman picked up five wickets for Bangladesh and helped reduce India’s scoring rate when they looked all set to score 350 plus.

Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Player of the Match for his hundred.

A win for India draws curtains to Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign in this edition. New Zealand, England and Pakistan continue to stay in contention for the remaining two semi-finalists.
