Australia posted a giant total of 381 for 5 in 50 overs against Bangladesh at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday, thanks to David Warner’s 166 off 147. Warner’s blitzkrieg was laced with 14 boundaries and 5 half-dozens.

Winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first and were on the money from the word go. Australia skipper Aaron Finch stitched a 121-run opening partnership with opener David Warner before falling to Soumya Sarkar. Finch played a handy knock of 53 runs.

Though his captain departed, Warner continued his onslaught like a man possessed and added 192 runs with Usman Khawaja for the 2nd wicket.

Khawaja, too, made a valuable 89. But everything aside, it was the 32-year-old swashbuckling Warner who stole the show with his 166 off 147. Warner fell in the 45th over to Sarkar after pushing the Bangladeshi Tigers on the back foot.

With this ton, Warner also became the leading run-scorer of the ongoing World Cup with 447 runs in 6 matches, surpassing Finch, who amassed 396 runs in as many matches. This was the left-hander’s 6th 150 plus score in ODIs, just one short of Rohit Sharma who tops the list.

Meanwhile, Warner also became the first player with two 150 plus scores in the history of World Cup.

The Aussies were clinical till the end. Towards the close of the innings, Glenn Maxwell played a handy knock of 32 off 10 balls to help Australia get to the mammoth score on the board.

For Bangladesh, Soumya Sarkar was the star with the ball scalping 3 by giving away 58 runs in 8 overs.

Brief scores: Australia 381 for 5 in 50 overs (David Warner 166, Usman Khawaja 89, Soumya Sarkar 3/58)
