The dead body of a newly-married woman was mysteriously found lying in a jhuggi at Safeda slums of the Geeta Colony area on Saturday morning. A belt was also reportedly found near the body indicating that it could have been used to strangle the woman.

All the family members of the deceased including her husband are said to be absconding after the incident.

On the information of the incident, a police team reached at the spot and recovered the dead body and shifted it to a mortuary for post-mortem.

During preliminary inquiry, no marks of injury were seen apparently. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. However, it is being suspected that she might have been strangulated. A probe into the matter has been initiated.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), R Sathiya Sundaram said that a PCR call was received on Saturday morning about murder of a 22 years old woman by her family members. Immediately, a police team reached the spot and found the deceased lying dead in a Jhuggi number F-393 at Safeda Jhuggi.

On inquiry it was revealed that Amit and his Mother Parvati live in the said Jhuggi. Amit is the husband of the deceased identified as Khushbu, who hails from Bihar.

Mother of Amit, Parvati is said to have married three persons and Amit is the son of her second husband Shankar Rai. She is absconding with Amit, after the incident.

As stated by the neighbours, the in-laws’ home was no less than a jail for the deceased. She was not allowed to go out and was often harassed. Amit used to beat her regularly.

Police are investigating the matter.
