Bhawanipatna, 6 December
As many as 1830 youths from different parts of the district participated in the mega employment camp, which was organised jointly by Odisha State Employment Mission and district administration, in Bhawanipatna today.
Official sources informed that 10 private companies and seven placement-implementing agencies took part in the event.  “It was targeted to tap 4500 unemployed youth to this camp; however, 2094 candidates were enrolled in the block level. Of them, 1830 youths participated in the camp. While 719 youths have got placement in different companies, 868 youths have been selected to get training in technical jobs and placement by the placement implementing agencies,” said a senior district official.
Most of the jobs were in the fields of security guard, housekeeping, garment units, yarn mills and machine operation in different plants.  Collector Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya inaugurated the camp.
In an interactive meeting with the employers and placement agencies, the district administration asked them to provide regular feedback and information about the recruited youth.
The officials said such camps are having special significance in a district like Kalahandi in view of large scale unemployment among youth.Incidentally, though the district administration had contacted 114 companies of the state and also outside, no industrial house from the state~ both in private sector and public sector~ did not participate in the camp causing resentment among the participating youths. Vedanta Aluminum Ltd (Val) which has its plant at Lanjigarh also failed to participate.
