US President Donald Trump, who on Wednesday visited Las Vegas to meet the survivors of the deadliest shooting in America, avoided the topic of gun control while addressing the media.

Trump met with local politicians, first responders and survivors of the shooting that killed 58 people and injured more than 500 others, CNN reported.

While Washington lawmakers have been facing questions about possible gun control measures in the wake of the massacre, Trump told reporters that he would not address the issue while travelling in Las Vegas, the report said.

“We are not going to talk about that today. We won’t talk about that,” Trump was quoted as saying.

Trump visited the hospital that treated scores of those injured and killed.

“Our unity cannot be shattered by evil, our bonds cannot be broken by violence. And though we feel such great anger at the senseless murder of our fellow citizens, it is our love that defines us today — and always will, forever,” he added.

After meeting with first responders, Trump told reporters he “just met some of the most amazing people” and that he met with patients that were “terribly wounded.”

“We cannot fathom their pain, we cannot imagine their loss,” he said.

“To the families of the victims, we are praying for you and we are here for you and we ask God to help see you through this very dark period,” the US President added
