At least seven persons were killed in separate incidents of lightning in the state today.
According to reports from Rourkela, two persons were killed and at least five others sustained grievous injuries when lightning struck Jalda stadium this afternoon.
The mishap took place when a friendly football match was going on. The playground was packed to near capacity for the sporting event which started at about 3pm.
 “The sky was heavily overcast and there were ominous signs of heavy thundershower and thunder. The lightning struck at about 4pm and hit the east side of the gallery,” said one youth who was present during the accident.
The impact was so heavy that it killed two persons on the spot and left five seriously injured with burn injuries.
 The injured were immediately shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH). The condition of the injured is reported to stable at the moment after initial first-aid.
The dead and injured reportedly belonged to Jalda and its nearby areas. The identities of the deceased were to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, Mr PC Mishra, ADM, Rourkela has declared Rs. 75,000 for the deceased from the Red Cross fund.
Reports from Puri said that the three women were killed in lighting when working in an agricultural field in Baliguali gram panchayat. Lightning deaths have also been reported from Ganjam and Sundergarh.
