Separatist leaders Syed Alishah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik were detained in Srinagar on Saturday after they tried to moblise a rally to make their departure to Delhi a big show.

The leaders were travelling to Delhi to court arrest outside National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters.

The separatists had allegedly planned to gather crowds for a rally at the time of their departure and had synchronised it with the arrival of Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Srinagar for four days.

Earlier, the authorities had released Mirwaiz, who was placed under house arrest on Wednesday, and Malik who was lodged in the jail on Thursday, to enable them fly to Delhi as the state government did not want to restrict their movement.

The IGP (Kashmir), Muneer Khan, said that Geelani and Mirwaiz have been placed under house arrest, while Malik has again been lodged in the central jail after being detained on Saturday.

The separatists had announced to court arrest at the NIA headquarters to protest against arrest of seven separatist leaders and house raids on their aides.

The NIA has reportedly seized documents in connection with the terror funding by Pakistan. The top separatists got upset when the son-in-law of Geelani was arrested and his two sons summoned to Delhi for questioning.

MP and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday came in support of the separatists when he said that he would give credence to the NIA raids only when something substantial comes out to prove terror funding of the separatists
