A second bridge over Mahanadi river at Sambalpur would be constructed soon, said officials today.
A team of senior officials headed by the Works department secretary Mr Suvendu Kumar Ray and chief engineer (roads) Bijan Kumar Behera conducted a spot visit to look into the matter.District officials of public works department and district collector Mr Balwant Singh were also present during the visit in this regard.
The second bridge will be constructed at Kacheri Chowk or at Sadak Ghat, informed the executive engineer Mr Sanjay Kumar Sahu.
Officials said if the second bridge over the river would facilitate the expansion on the western side.
At the same time, people living at the Chaunrpur end would be directly connected to the district headquarters after the bridge is constricted, officials said.
The team visited the ring road from Nelson Mandela chowk near the court to the Durgapali end near Laxmi Dunguri on NH 55.
They stressed on the need for the completion of the road stretch from from Dhankauda to Laxmi Dunguri, including construction of an over bridge at Durgapali railway level crossing to overcome traffic congestion.
Widening of the ring road to provide and alternative and ease out traffic problem was also discussed.
