Steel, Mines, Labour and Employment Minister, Prafulla Mallick, urged upon all industries in the district to provide more employment opportunities to local youth.

He emphasized on recruitment of both skilled and unskilled people from amongst the local population in their industries.  The minister expressed concern that companies were outsourcing recruitment and local unemployed youths were often deprived of jobs causing a lot of resentment.

Mallick made the remarks at a review meeting in the presence of district officers and representatives of several industries like Bhushan Steel Ltd, MGM, Lanco, Navabharat Ventures and others here on Saturday.

The Minister took note of the absentee industries and enquired why they had not sent any of their representatives to the meeting.

He asked the district authorities to collect and provide a report on direct recruitment conducted by industries in the district and how many local people had got employment.

He also reviewed the progress of the medicinal garden at Sogar village in Kamakshyanagar constituency and requested industries to allocate funds for its development.

The district administration with support of forest department is monitoring works in the garden and has invested Rs.1.5 crore over the last four years. As many as 150 varieties of medicinal plants have been grown in the garden. Mallick informed that he had provided Rs.30 lakh from his MLALAD for the medicinal garden.
