Hours after the horrifying Manchester Arena blast, a 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday by the British police in connection with the terror attack. Also, a news agency claimed that Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.

“With regard to the ongoing investigation into last night’s horrific attack at the Manchester arena, we can confirm we have arrested a 23-year-old man in South Manchester,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

The blast took place at the Manchester Arena where US singer Ariana Grande was performing. The explosion occurred at 10.35 pm (local time), minutes after Ariana wrapped her concert, when a suicide bomber detonated himself and claimed as many as 22 lives and left 59 injured.

A male suicide bomber is suspected to have carried out the explosion in the foyer of the Arena building, Manchester Police said.

The concert was attended by at least 20,000 people.

British Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the incident as “appalling terrorist attack”.

“This attack stands out for its appalling, sickening cowardice, deliberately targeting innocent, defenseless children and young people who should have been enjoying one of the most memorable nights of their lives,” May said

“We now know that a single terrorist detonated his improvized explosive device near one of the exits of the venue, deliberately choosing the time and place to cause maximum carnage and to kill and injure indiscriminately,” she added.
