IPS officer YC Modi appointed as new NIA chief

Senior IPS officer YC Modi on Monday was appointed as the new Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the orders of Home Ministry.

The decision was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet following an proposal from the minsitry.

Modi, a 1984 Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer is set to replace Sharad Kumar, who will retire on 30 October 2018. He is at present Additional Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

YC Modi was also part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court for probing the Godhra riots cases from 2002.
