The dance of democracy is in full swing in Gujarat and with the date of voting nearing. Each day the Election Commission is also gearing up to conduct the two-phase election with utmost perfection.

The total number of voters is about 4.33 crores and to manage almost half of these in the first phase on 9 December would be a mammoth task which requires numerous days of hard work and operations management that the EC is best prepared for.

approximately 1.11-lakh bottles of ink have been procured for the Gujarat elections. The EC has named 95 observers to keep an eye on the cost and expenses of each candidate. Their task is to ensure that candidates don’t spend beyond Rs. 28-lakh limit that the commission has set for each candidate.

The Election Commission is also looking at cases of misconduct as per the election code released and about 44 reports of violation of code of conduct have been brought to EC’s notice, of which the EC has already disposed of 20 such cases.

The election machinery in Gujarat has suggested setting up a total of 50,247 polling stations across the state against 50,128 polling stations that were expected to be set up, as there has been a slight increase in the number of voters as per the final voter list published on 25 September 2017. However, it will only be possible to increase the polling stations after the Election Commission of India approves.
