Bhubaneswar, 5 December
The BJP castigated the state government for failing to provide seeds to farmers for the rabi crop.
Farmers are suffering due to the apathy and callousness of the government , strict action needs to be taken on erring officials charged spokesperson of BJP Sameer Mohanty.
At a time when the farmers of the state are reeling under the devastation of the recent cyclonic storm Phailin and the subsequent flood that destroyed the Kharif crop, nothing has been done by the government to help them for the rabi cultivation, he charged.
Mohanty pointed out that even the ruling BJD leaders had called for action against errant officers of the Odisha Seeds Corporation. Farmers are forced to depend on the corrupt middlemen for seeds, charged Mohanty. CM Naveen Patnaik owes an apology to the farmers and ensure that they get seeds, fertilizer and other inputs at the earliest, said the BJP leader.
The CM should realize that gimmicks like providing cell phones to farmers or blankets do not help. Mr Naveen Patnaik should know that the farmer needs seeds, fertilizer, water and pesticides not mobile phones, blankets or umbrella, chided Mohanty.
