Acting on the directive of the State Election Commission (SEC) in connection with the alleged use of the official fax machine of Steel and Mines Minister Rajanikant Singh in sending a party candidates’ list to Angul collector, the minister&’s office lodged an FIR in police station today.
“We have lodged the FIR in Capital police station. It is now up to the police to find out who sent the facsimile message to the collectorate. We have apprised the SEC of lodging of the FIR and keep it informed of subsequent steps,” said Mr Pradip Kumar Mohapatra, the private secretary (PS) to the minister.
Meanwhile, continuing to bay for the minister&’s blood for the alleged violation of the model code of conduct (MCC), the BJP described the FIR lodging as a “drama”.
“This is nothing but farce and an attempt to buy time and shield the minister. Enough proof are available that the minister has violated the MCC. If action has been initiated against the collector and another subordinate official in the matter, how could the minister plead innocence? Further shocking is the silence of chief minister . We want the minister to  step down on his own or the CM ousts him,” said BJP&’s spokesperson Mr Sajjan Sharma.
Mr Singh has found himself in a soup after it was found that a fax message containing the names of BJD candidates for Angul urban body election was sent to the collectorate.
