Seventy-five kilograms of ganja has been seized from an apartment at Nilanchala Nagar here and four persons have been arrested in this connection, the police said on Monday.

"A car, an auto-rickshaw and three motorcycles were also seized," SP (Berhampur) Sarthak Sarangi said.

The contraband was packed in packets, weighing 2 kilograms each, he said.

Those arrested on Saturday night were identified as Krushna Dakua, Raju Gouda, Bapi Behera and Sumant Gamango.

"We suspect the house was used as a transit point for transporting ganja to different places, mostly outside the state. These might have been procured from marijuana-growing districts like Kandhamal, Gajapati and Rayagada," the SP said.

Preliminary inquiry showed that the contraband was to be taken in a train to Surat in Gujarat.

"The accused persons had rented the house by identifying themeselves as employees of a private telecom company. Investigation is on to find out how they procured the ganja and since many years they are into this illegal business," said Inspector In-Charge of Berhampur Sadar police station A K Sethi.

Police had recently seized one-and half quintal of ganja from a car at Golanthara near the town. "We have decided to check autorickshaws, cars and buses on suspicious routes during daytime," the SP added.
