Wild and beautiful, white daisies and cosmos in pastels bloom beneath the tall pines. They whisper new hopes and dreams in the wet wind.

Spread your wings and fly away to the Abode of Clouds and let your dreams come true.

Don’t look at the neon lights for a while. Leave the hustle and bustle of the high city life for now. Come away to the place where you can listen to the sound of murmuring brooks and blissful silence. Let your hair down in the soft drizzle, and smell the freshness of the green ferns drenched in the rain.

Take the road less travelled—the long and winding road to the hills and up the mountains. It’s always a joy ride here, with nature’s bounty all around you… tall pines and lakes, small hillocks and rolling meadows.

As you hit the highway to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, after landing at the Guwahati airport, the sight of makeshift stalls with fresh farm food on the side of the winding road gives you a feeling of a warm homecoming.

Home to the cleanest village in Asia, the state has a lot to offer any visitor—waterfalls and caves, canyons and bridges, valleys and peaks, rolling meadows and warm hamlets. Just lay down your heavy load. Shrug off the stress. Free your mind from the dirt and grime you left behind.

Now, take a peaceful deep breath, and let your heart and soul breath freely. Free yourself to the home of wild flowers and garden blooms.

And, spend a good week or so in the city and around it. Listen to their music, their songs and enjoy the food, and you would be tempted to stay a little longer. When you go away, you would want to come back home here.

Apart from the peaceful life, beautiful people and the unique culture you must experience, some places worth visiting are: Umiam Lake, the Living Root Bridge, Elephant Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, Seven Sisters Falls, Dawki River, Mawkdok Dympep Valley, Shillong peak, Laitlum Canyons and Mawsmai Cave. One must also visit Mawlynnong Village. It was listed as the cleanest village in Asia by Discover India in the year 2003.
