Through the slush

Through the slush… slowly pushing, twisting and turning in the pouring rain, the mud laden jeeps wheeled along the long and winding road.

Uphill or downhill, the journey wasn’t easy at all. The incessant rain didn’t make it easy. The road was muddy and slushy.  Thank your lucky stars, if you reach your destination alive.

We have often heard of travelling through rugged roads, the rocky hills and mountains far away. Of flash flood and landslides, yes we hear it all the time. But travelling through the slush?

This is incredible India!

This amazingly rich part of green India – Tamenglong, proudly called the land of oranges or the land of hornbill in Northeast India, you have to see it for real!

Endowed with rich biodiversity, wildlife, breathtaking scenic beauty and wild wonders, the region is beginning to attract the interest of wildlife experts, environmentalists and the world’s attention to its unique richness.

However, travelling during monsoon in this godforsaken remote part of the world can be a thrilling experience and life-threatening as well.

The appallingly poor condition of Tamenglong road in Manipur is much talked about among the locals and political corridors as well. Often, political candidates use it as a vote plank.

The road is not just unpaved or rugged. It gets flooded and slushy all the way.

To the world outside, Tamenglong road may read as less travelled or less explored, but for the people living in the district, it is the only life line that connects the remote district to the capital Imphal.  Owing to lack of infrastructure, including life-saving medical facilities and other requirement,  people living in the region have to travel this road often.

In the lap of nature, life here is easy and beautiful. But life along the rough and bumpy road is truly tough.

So many lives could have been saved if the much trodden road were good.  Alas, who is to blame.

If well developed Malaysia is truly Asia, this underdeveloped small world is incredible India. Travel the less explored and tell your story to the world.
