Kurseong was originally called Karsan Rup meaning the “Land of white orchid”. It is so-called as it is home to the flowering species and is well-endowed with flora and fauna owing to its favourable climatic conditions. In fact, it is popular as a “Botanist Paradise”.

Kurseong is a wonderland of tea gardens sprawled over a great expanse of the hill station like a soft, green carpet, welcoming travellers and visitors with its breathtaking views. Take a walk in the tea gardens and experience the exhilarating feeling of being filled with the musky smell of sun-kissed fresh tea leaves.  Some of the more popular ones are the Cochrane Place, Makaibari tea estates and Castleton Tea Factory.

Just one km away from the railway station, Eagles Craig is a point which provides a breathtaking view of the beautiful town. It houses a garden of exotic flowers and a water reservoir which provides drinking water to the entire town. From here, you can also catch the spectacular view of Mt Kanchenjunga, Dow Hill, St Mary’s Hill and other beautiful places there.
