On the occasion of India&’s 70th Independence Day, Google marked the day with a "Tryst With Destiny" doodle. The historic "Tryst With Destiny" speech was delivered by first ever Prime Minister of the free India Jawaharlal Nehru in front of the constituent assembly at themidnight of 14th August.

The first few lines of the speech reads, “Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now that time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of today’s midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.”

The speech is now as iconic as the moment and continues to inspire Indians. The optimistic speech threw light on the bright future that the nation holds and was a promise made by every individual to overcome the deplorable conditions that existed just after the Independence.
