Stock market bounces back; banks, metals shine

Sensex closed with a loss of 455 points, or 0.62%, at 72,488.99 while the Nifty 50 ended the day at 21,995.85, down 152 points, or 0.69%.
The losses were weighed on investors' risk appetite who will also closely track March quarter results at home.
The Sensex was down 793.25 points or 1.06 percent at 74,244.90, and the Nifty was down 234.40 points or 1.03 percent at 22,519.40.
Sensex was up 354.45 points, or 0.47%, at 75,038.15, and the Nifty was up 111 points, or 0.49%, at 22,753.80.
Domestic equities rebounded sharply despite weak global cues mainly supported by a sharp recovery in financial stocks, said Binod Modi, Head - Strategy at Reliance Securities.
Unlike the larger markets, the MidCap and SmallCap on the broader markets ended with gains at 0.99 per cent and 0.73 per cent respectively.
Sector-wise, BSE power, utilities, energy, FMCG, basic materials, and metals indices rose up to 3.25 per cent, while BSE realty and capital goods closed with losses.
Following the large-cap markets, the broader markets also plunged with MidCap and SmallCap closing at 1.3 and 1.6 per cent down respectively.
On the other hand, Asian Paints, Dr Reddy's, HCL Tech, HUL and Bharti Airtel were among the gainers.
