The CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty asked why is Roy still holding the PAC chairman’s post when his own party’s lawmakers are claiming that he lacks mental balance. “Is he kept in the position to help in financial corruption through certain exchanges?” he questioned.
The bench noted that there are so many cases where there is delay by the Speaker, and the court is often told to stay away and allow the Speaker to decide.
The bench said a petition filed for Roy's disqualification is pending before the Speaker for more than three months, the maximum period fixed in a judgement of the Supreme Court, for decision thereof.
"We want Roy to get disqualified as soon as possible. We will also mention in the petition to fix the deadline for fast redressal of the issue,” Adhikari said.
He alleged that the move by Trinamool Congress to appoint Roy as the chairman is an effort to cover up its malpractices.
The resignations come after Speaker Biman Banerjee's decision to nominate Mukul Roy as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee
Meanwhile, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, who went Delhi to meet party chief JP Nadda, today after being summoned to discuss “urgent party matter”, said that party will no more tolerate anti-party statements on social media.
Adhikari said that an opposition MLA is usually appointed as the PAC chairperson following the norm, but the TMC misused that rule to appoint Roy as its chairman.
As soon as Roy joined TMC he was allotted a Y category security by state police
