State BJP leaders, however, refused to make any comment on the absence of their legislators on the occasion.
LF has increased its vote share and reached second position in Bidhannagar and Chandannagar civic bodies eclipsing BJP that had emerged as the main opposition in the assembly polls. Trinamul Congress has got nearly 74 per cent votes while it is around 11 per cent for the LF in Bidhannagar municipality. For the saffron camp the vote percentage is around 8.5 per cent.
The Left leadership has admitted to problems related to roads, drainage system, disposal of garbage, while it has promised that it would look into the issues seriously after coming to power. On the other hand, the Left claimed that it would manage approval for a safe drinking water project from authorities concerned and formulate a proper plan to keep the Mahananda river healthy by bringing in beautification plans on either side of the river and by building parks.

Left Front will begin its agitation on 29 December from 2 pm, in front of the SEC office. The CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty sought to point out that in this KMC election the TMC got a total of 72 per cent of votes but in 26 wards it has bagged more than 80 per cent votes. In three wards, it even secured more than 90 percent votes. “The TMC had almost touched 100 per cent,” tweeted Mr Chakraborty and said the result in itself shows what a laughing stock democracy in Bengal has been turned into.
A Left Front leader said the Left though believes that its ability to hold on to the second position in 65 wards out of 144, is in itself a sign that people of Kolkata retains their faith in the party but lamented that it could have bagged more seats had the “TMC not looted votes and unleashed violence to wreck the election.”
The Left Front sought to give out a positive message as its candidate for ward 70 in Bhawanipore, Barun Das today began his campaign after a visit to the Netaji Bhavan. He paid his respects to the freedom fighter before filing his nomination as the candidate.
Ahead of the civic polls, the Opposition parties in Bengal have time and again levelled allegations of corruption in municipal bodies against the TMC-run government. The Left wants to change this by setting up a municipal vigilance authority where all project tenders of the KMC and its budget details would be posted on the civic body’s website for public information. If any citizen wants to lodge a complaint regarding any municipal issues, they can do so through a complaint cell which will also be set up.
