Siliguri mayor Goutam Deb today visited Nivedita Road and asked officials to clear encroachments on either the side of the road so that a four-lane can be constructed connecting another highway, which is being constructed following international guidelines.
"We will stop the 'dalaal raj' completely. There will be no middlemen. There will be no syndicate raj- -illegal practice in the tender process. I will take action if any such illegal activity is reported. I declare this today. I have seen many hooligans and I have tackled the mafias. I do not fear. The tender process must be transparent."
Former Darjeeling district TMC president Ranjan Sarkar, other senior leaders like Ranjan Sil Sharma, Sanjay Pathak and Dulal Dutta may also find important posts in the SMC, sources said. Rambhajan Mahato and Kamal Agarwal, who switched over to the ruling party from the Left camp last year, may also get berths.
Terming today's budget as a "realistic one," Mr Deb said Rs 43 crore was spent for development in the SMC area in 2020-2021. SMC received Rs 22 crore from the state government out of the Rs 43 crore, in which Rs 6 crore was a deficit.
He said that he had received reports about such ‘camps’ at Sarada Sishu Tirtha which is located at ward 41 and comes under his Assembly constituency, Dabgram-Fulbari.
Subrata Saha, the president of the Bidhan Market Babyasayee Samiti, said that he was in the town when all the developments took place.
