The President visited the house of Mr Advani, who has not been keeping well, in New Delhi to bestow upon him the nation's highest civilian honour.
President Droupadi Murmu honoured former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh, Narasimha Rao, former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, and agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan with Bharat Ratna posthumously today.
President Murmu is likely to travel to BJP leader LK Advani' residence to confer the prestigious award.
Often asked to summarise a prepared speech in five minutes, Bharat Ratna Dr MS Swaminathan would demonstrate his innate ability to fluently explain complexities of agriculture, economics, and nutrition in easyto-understand points.
Garlanding Pandit Pant, who served as the first chief minister of the state and the home minister of the country, the chief minister remembered him as a great son of Mother India and a great freedom fighter.
In a post on 'X', the Congress chief wrote, “On the behalf of Indian National Congress, we welcome the Bharat Ratna being conferred to P V Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and Dr M S Swaminathan.”
The award for Chaudhary Charan Singh comes at a time when his grandson and chief of the RLD Jayant is said to be holding talks with the BJP for an alliance for the Lok Sabha election.
In a statement, she rued that it is inappropriate to disrespect and ignore Dalit personalities for the recognition.
Mentioning that Advani has made immense contributions to public service, the MP said, “ Heartiest Congratulations to him for the honour.”
