Besides his playing days’ heroics, legendary batsman Rahul Dravid exhibited the world the better of his techniques when he started coaching young colts in India.

The calm and composed cricketer has kept himself away from favouritism and for him, every player is equal in a squad. However, the 44-year-old couldn’t resist himself when he saw the daring-dos of 17-year-old rising batsman Prithvi Shaw.

Shaw, a right-handed batsman from Maharashtra, was on Monday excluded from India’s U-19 squad for Asia Cup in Malaysia, to be held in November.

“The selectors were of the opinion that 17-year-old Prithvi Shaw, who recently scored a century (154) in the Duleep Trophy final, should play in the ongoing Ranji Trophy,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Announcing this, a BCCI junior selection committee official revealed that the decision was taken in consultation with India A and U-19 coach Rahul Dravid, who wants Shaw to focus on the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

Earlier in August, Shaw had captained the India U-19 side during a limited-over series in England.

Playing for Mumbai, Shaw scored a hundred on his First-Class debut in last year’s Ranji Trophy final. He added another one in his kitty recently when he struck a match-winning century in the Duleep Trophy final last month.

Having played three First-Class matches, Shaw has made 424 runs at an impressive average of 70.66.
