Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan who started the day being highest scorer in the series so far, lost his wicket early on Thursday. Spinner Malinda Pushpakumara dismissed the left-handed batsman for four runs in the second over.

Earlier, Dhawan had scored 132, 49 and five in last three ODIs that India won comfortably.

Kohli’s swift knock

Indian skipper Virat Kohli appeared in his beast form in Colombo as he struck a fiery knock of 131 runs. The 28-year-old Delhi batsman slammed 17 boundaries and two sixes in his illustrious 96-ball knock.

It was Kohli’s 29th century in ODI cricket, third most after Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Ricky Ponting (30). The Indian skipper took only 185 innings to reach the milestone, faster enough than Tendulkar and Ponting who played 265 and 330 innings respectively to reach their pinnacle.

Rohit rides consistency

Rohit Sharma, whose calm and measured 124 runs (not out) helped India win third ODI to clinch the five-match series 3-0, rode consistency to score an impressive knock of 104 runs.

Rohit’s 88-ball knock was decorated by three sixes and 11 boundaries. He established a 219-run stand with captain Kohli for the second-wicket partnership.

Mathews traps big fishes

Experienced pacer Angelo Mathews took the scalp of Rohit and Hardik Pandya (19), in an attempt to bring the Lankans back into the game.

With two dismissals back to back in the 35th over, Mathews ignited hopes for Sri Lanka and India’s dream to 400 runs was shattered.

Dhoni’s 49 @300

Playing his 3th ODI match, wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni made an elegant appearance at the Premadasa Stadium. Although Dhoni missed to score his 66th half-century, he made sure Manish Pandey (50), on the other end, have best out of opportunity.

Dhoni made 49 runs off 42 balls, scoring five boundaries and a six to keep the spectators off their feet.
