India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has put his bet on spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, ahead of his comeback Test to be held on November 16-20 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

“Ashwin is ahead of others. He has got many variations, also the length varies, so it’s tough against him. He has more variation than (Ravindra) Jadeja, Kuldeep (Yadav),” Saha, who closely monitors every bowlers’ game from behind the stumps, said in a press conference.

Saha revealed how difficult is to keep wickets when Ashwin gets to bowl as the off-spinner possesses a lot of variations under his sleeve.

“We have played many matches in Ranji, India A and during practice. The more you keep, the better idea you develop. It becomes easier after a point. I’ve always played with them in all my 28 Tests,” the 33-year-old keeper added.

According to the West Bengal-based cricketer, India have their core strength in the spin trio of Ashwin, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. However, all three spinners are very different from each other, he added.

“Your 50 per cent job is done mainly by reading the hand at the point of release then you see how it bounces off the pitch and turns. The challenge is to hold on to all the balls, even if it turns or not,” Saha said, eying success in the opening Test at his home ground.
